Screengrab: FRiFF 2016 Call for Entries
For the second year in a row, the Flying Robot international Film Festival will alight in San Francisco, chock full of shorts shot from up above.
“The world’s premier open competitive film festival focused on aerial cinema created from the perspective of drones,” this year’s fest lands at the Roxie at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17. A world premiere screening of the 2016 FRiFF drone shorts program, the films have been chosen from 180 submissions from over 40 countries across 8 categories this year by a jury“from the worlds of aerial cinema, feature filmmaking, robotics, artificial intelligence, media, and drone sports.”
“With drones in the hands of more people, we’re seeing the bar raised as to what it means to be an aerial filmmaker,” says FRiFF founder Eddie Codel says.
“The evolution of drone technology has empowered more filmmakers to come up with new creative ways to tell their stories. Shots that were impossible even 2 years ago are fairly trivial for an aspiring aerial filmmaker today.”
