Sheriff’s office drone grounded by law

A drone purchased by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office last year has not been put to use and Sheriff Ted Kamatchus doesn’t agree with federal laws restricting its operation.

Kamatchus purchased the flying device for $190 last year in hopes his office could use it for special searches in fields or for added security in task force work or other high-risk cases.

The drone is operated by radio control or a tablet computer and sends back high definition video to the user. It can fly for 15 minutes at a time.
