FAA keeping cities in the dark on drone airspace announcement

Dayton is in the running to be one of six FAA-designated test sites for unmanned aerial systems — commonly known as drones.An announcement could come any day now on whether or not Dayton has been selected as a test area for unmanned aerial systems.

But the Federal Aviation Administration — which plans to make the announcement — isn’t talking.

Dayton is in the running to be one of six FAA-designated test sites for unmanned aerial systems — commonly known as drones — which would make it a magnet for research and manufacture of the UAS in coming years.

The FAA has said the six test sites will be essential to the development of drones before the national aerospace is opened for their use, which is expected to be in 2015.
