The film “Civilian Drones – Search and Rescue” was screened twice at the Reuben Fleet Science Center in San Diego on Sunday, October 6th. Audience members were mesmerized by the capabilities of the Spectra wing in finding missing victims. “The viewers were confused as to why something so simple and so efficient would be blocked by the FAA,” said Maha Calderon. “It was good to see the film enlighten the audience who was blissfully unaware of the restrictions on the use of small UAS for volunteer search and rescue operations.” It was clear from the reaction of the general public that there is a lot of misunderstanding about the FAA’s ruling, she said. Dr. Eric Frost, of the San Diego State University Viz Center, attended the screening. He commented that the film was highly emotional and demonstrated the critical need for UAS development.
